Space and Sustainability

In collaboration with the UN Development Program, MaxIQ Space regularly hosts challenges for individuals, groups, science clubs and schools. Each challenge relates to Space STEM and the Sustainable Development Goals ("SDG"s).

Deadline - the deadline each year for the challenges is end September. 

Awards - the awards available are outlined in the respective challenge pages. In addition, MaxIQ Space will be presenting additional awards for those who stand out from the crowd. 

SDG Challenge Description
SDG 3 Good health and wellbeing Our Environment - understanding comfort levels - develop a comfort chart for your surroundings - experiment, analyse data and report findings
SDG 15 Life on Land Understanding micro climates - collect and analyse data  - report findings and data analysis
SDG 7 Affordable and Clean Energy Understanding natural light - energy from our sun - design and test a concept for solar energy harvesting and use.
SDG 15  Life on Land Advanced Monitoring micro climates - monitor conditions in a community and compare these with available satellite data. Make recommendations of changes that could improve life on land.
SDG 9 Industry Innovation and Infrastructure Innovation, IoT and Industry 4.0 - Identify an industrial operation close by, visit the site and identify an IoT project that could be conducted to improve process management and decision-making. 
SDG 11 Sustainable Cities and Communities Smart cities, smart villages and smart farming all supported by IoT - Identify an agricultural operation close by, visit the site and identify an IoT project that could be conducted to improve agricultural management and decision-making. 
SDG 13 Climate Action - Mega Challenge Design a project that links to at least two Sustainable Development Goals. The project must include the development of research questions, data collection, analysis and interpretation and the presentation of results and recommendations.
